Who wants to visit a machine shop?

Silly question.  A bunch of photographers, that's who.  All the following were taken using existing light - no flash or special lights.  You learn to appreciate the randomness of a shop, the precision of the product and the patina of the old machines.

Old and new

The courthouse in St Thomas was recently renewed.  Fortunately, it looks like the grand old features were painstakingly restored.  Peaking in the  windows one can see lots of old woodwork.  The finish on the exterior wooden doors is still fresh enough to be able to smell it.

Around the front (in the north) are a pair of old canons.

Here's something from the new building.  Any guesses?  A hint, I was only shooting from outside.

Return Visit to House and Barn

Our first visit here was in October.  I remember thinking how cold it felt that morning.  Wow, that day had nothing on this January morning.  Fortunately there were lots of walls to hide behind to avoid the bitterly cold winds.  No matter how well dressed, the cold penetrated.  The house was made with mud walls about a metre thick.  Out of the wind but still sub-zero temperatures in the house left my fingers numb in short order.  Even still I was almost the last person to pack up my gear.
