Port Bruce

Last weekend the weather was extremely dramatic so I took a drive down to Pt Bruce expecting a nice sunset. On the way hay bales coaxed me out of the car early.  Later while I was shooting along the shore two young women asked I could take some shots of one of them with her own camera.   After doing so, I asked if I could take a few shots of her with my camera.  Walaa said sure.  Then the light did what I had hoped for and lit up the sky amazingly.  The wind was pushing water up onto the pier and the reflections were an unexpected bonus.

Got to love getting up late and still being able to shoot some surprising shots.  After our breakfast, a family of Cedar Waxwings came to visit.  I was excited as I spotted two birds.  Then I found several young ones.  I watched, from behind many layers of leaves, as mom or dad fed the young ones some berries.  One of the more dominant juveniles posed for me while he picked, tossed and then swallowed his own berry.



I found the pattern on the back of the spiders so interesting.  To me it looks like a cartoon version of an unhappy cat.  Oh and by the way, the actual size of the spider was about a quarter of an inch.





The flower shots were, I confess, grab shots.  I knew the effect I was going for but didn't know that there were bugs in the one shot until I uploaded the images to my computer. I kind of like the effect and prefer it to the non-bugged shot. What do you think?

Did I mention that our campsite seemed to be in the middle of a wind farm?

Port Bruce, Winter 2014

Yesterday, after a night and morning of snowing, the roads weresurprisingly clear and the sky started to clear up. I'd been wanting to get to Port Bruce for a few weeks now.  These conditions were perfect, except for the temperature of minus 10 degrees Celsius with a wind chill probably below minus 20!!

I stayed out there long enough to go from blue sky to having some colour with the setting sun.

I really liked the shadows in the snow of this picnic table.

June Evening in Port Burwell

I had the chance to have a tour on the decommission submarine-Ojibwa. Although photos were not allowed inside, my phone helped capture some shots outside. Afterwards I walked around with my camera shooting some sights. As I approached the oldest wooden lighthouse in Canada, I heard some fiddle music. At first I thought it might be one of the local businesses playing some Celtic tunes. But no, I found a local musician and her friend just relaxing. They said I could shoot them (little did they know the ugliness of on camera flash). After that I stopped for a final attempt at capturing the sunset.

Six Mile Lake

 After trying for about 15 years I finally got a "Hummer" shot worth showing.  Next time, I'll increase the shutter speed to above 1/1600th of a second.

 Another shade of grey; this cottage is probably over 60 years old.  Until the week before this image was taken, it had wonderful peeling paint of various colours, which I loved.  I guess what some see as opportunity, others see as eyesores.

 Three docks; taken before most people were up and about, the reflections were too much to resist.

 I liked the back-lighting of this little guy.  His actual size was about 3-4 mm.

 It's hard to get a sharp shot when floating in a boat in open water. This is a shot of a mother and her two "loonettes".

Completing the family is Papa.  This shot was taken from our dock when Papa came into our bay to do some fishing.  I got to see him surface with a small fish, swim over to one of the kids and feed him.  Papa was fastidious about grooming.  He was constantly plucking feathers and dipping under the surface to reset his coat.
